Father Aaron Nett joined our area catholic community in June of 2023.
I was raised in the Dutch Reformed Church of America and raised in a small community in N.W. Iowa. I joined the Catholic Church in 1984, but I wasn’t well prepared or formed in the Catholic faith and struggled to practice the faith for many years.
At a particularly dark and difficult time in my spiritual walk, I had several strong Christian friends walk with me, encourage me, carry me, and pray with and for me. As a result of their love and witness, I opened my heart to God’s love for me and opened my heart to the Holy Spirit and allowed myself to be taught, formed, and loved. It was as if scales fell from my eyes and God’s loved burned within me and I surrendered my heart to God. I experienced the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit and my life has never been the same! All praise be to Jesus Christ.
My ordination to the Diaconate in 2011 has allowed me to share with others what those loving and caring friends shared with me, the unconditional love of God, and the fullness of faith within the Roman Catholic Church and the seven sacraments.
My story is still being written as God continually is calling me deeper into the mystery of His Divine Love. It is my great joy to have been called to serve in these wonderful, faith-filled communities, and to have you as my sisters and brothers in Christ.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Peace and Blessings, Deacon Craig Korver.
I’m Deacon Leo Wehseler and I was ordained on June 10th, 2023. My wife Maggie and our 3 daughters and 2 sons enjoy the area and all it brings; the farms, the country, and the people. As a deacon, I am called to serve and I do this through being a husband and father, through various ministries in the ACC, as an engineering manager at DeZURIK, and as a member of the Pierz First Response Team. God is present for each of us and I have witnessed this as I journey with others on the path of life. He is there as I walk with others through times of joy and times of sorrow or difficulty. Only God can provide peace and comfort in the midst of chaos and the joy and contentment we feel in the good times. Thanks be to God!
Your brother in Christ,
Deacon Leo Wehseler
My name is Tobias Ellis, and I am a seminarian currently studying theology at the Saint
Paul Seminary. 2027 is the year when I plan on being ordained to the priesthood for the
Diocese of St. Cloud. One of the blessings of these final four years of formation is to be
placed in a parish and given the opportunity to visit at least once a month, mainly to
learn about parish life and receive mentorship from the pastor. The Father Pierz Area
Catholic Community is where I will be until ordination, and I am excited to continue to
get to know Father Nett and the vibrant community in these four parishes.
I was born in the Twin Cities, but my family moved to the St. Cloud area when I was
three years old. However, this was not before my oldest brother who is fourteen years
older than me entered seminary for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. There
will be a bit of a border battle as he is now a priest for St. Paul and Minneapolis and I
will be ordained for St. Cloud! I have three other older siblings and eight nieces and
nephews. As the youngest, it is a great joy to spend time with them and spoil them!! As
for other hobbies, I enjoy hiking (my goal is to visit all the U.S. national parks), biking,
playing board games, riding around on my electric unicycle, and following yet being
consistently disappointed by Minnesota sports teams.
I am extremely grateful for my time in seminary. It has taught me how to form strong,
faith-filled friendships, a solid prayer life and relationship with the Lord, and how to grow
as a man of God that will enable me, God willing, to serve the people of God well as His
priest. Thank you for being part of my journey of formation, and please keep me in your
prayers!
Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the Lord guards the city, the guard keeps watch in vain. (Psalm 127:1)
Greetings brothers and sisters in Christ, Jesus!,
My name is Adam Hermanson and I want to start by sharing that my lovely bride, Annie, and our 5 children, (one in the womb) have experienced an outpouring of such love and support by this community that we find ourselves in a constant state of gratitude. We truly have been embraced by the arms of Jesus through this community and we cannot thank you all enough! From the hands and sweat that came together to remodel the rectory in Buckman, all the way to ensuring our fridge was stocked in anticipation of our arrival is beyond generous. When I think of how the Lord wants me to love my neighbor as myself, I must go no further than to see how this community has modeled it so wonderfully.
Service to others brings our family joy as well. My previous experience in ministry dates to 2004 when I started helping with the various youth programs while posing as a Lutheran, but becoming a closet Catholic through a friend’s authentic witness to the truth. The conviction became so strong I could not help but find myself in RCIA and later receiving the sacraments. I met my wife, Annie, about 5 years later and we got married in 2015. We have 4 beautiful children; Marina 8, Caleb 5, Dominic 4, Zelie 1.5, and a baby due at the end of December.
My professional background is in print manufacturing, computer graphics and office administration. It is my prayer that with everything I have learned, I will be able to properly provide the service needed to this community as your new parish administrator. I thank Father Aaron and his staff for this opportunity and it is truly an honor to be a part of this community!
Sincerely,
Adam Hermanson
The early beginnings of the church go back to 1902, when a log church and a small house to accommodate the priest was built on a donated tract of land in the Town of Platte in eastern Morrison County. The church was officially incorporated as the Church of the Holy Cross in 1904. A new church was constructed two miles east in what is now known as the village of Harding. Holy Cross celebrated its 100th year in August, 2004.
The parish of St. John Nepomuk had its beginning during the year of 1900. About 80 families living in the area were part of the Pierz Church territory established by Fr. Pierz, a pioneer missionary. In 1898 a post office was established and this was the beginning of the town of Lastrup. The families petitioned the Bishop and he established the boundaries for the new parish. The ecclesiastical corporation was signed on November 21, 1900. The first year, and until the church's completion, Mass was held in the post office building. On Christmas Eve, 1901, a solemn procession carried the Blessed Sacrament up the hill to the present church. In 1907, a steeple was completed. Communion railings and pews were also added. In 1910, the building was veneered with brick which is still intact. At present, St. John's parish has an enrollment of 197 households and a membership of 510.
